CPRE Oxford Green Belt Way

CPRE Oxford Green Belt Way

Introducing the OGBW

The Oxford Green Belt Way has been created by CPRE Oxfordshire to celebrate its 75th anniversary and 50 years of Oxford's Green Belt. It is a 50 mile circular walk through some of Oxfordshire's most picturesque countryside and historic villages, and alongside delightful stretches of the River Thames and the Oxford Canal.

The CPRE Oxford Green Belt Way

Fifty years ago following a campaign by CPRE and the Oxford Preservation Trust, Oxford councillors had the foresight to declare that the fields surrounding their city should be designated as Green Belt. Now CPRE Oxfordshire, as part of its 75th birthday celebrations, has created a 50 mile circular walk around Oxford—one mile for each year since the designation of green belts in 1956.

The Oxford Green Belt Way is a celebration of the beautiful and diverse landscape that surrounds the City of the Dreaming Spires, which has been protected from destructive development by its Green Belt status.

The Green Belt Way links Oxford’s Park & Ride sites and is crossed by major bus routes, making it easy for city and village dwellers to access the route, and to travel back to their starting point. The route provides excellent views of Oxford’s Dreaming Spires, as well as Otmoor, Foxcombe Hill and Wytham Woods. The route uses existing footpaths and bridleways.
